The Graphic Design of Call of Duty: Black Ops
Even if you've seen this intro animation already, try watching it again to see how many different designs you're able to spot. They move so damn fast, I doubt the human eye can catch up!
Like the millions of 18-25 year old males, I've spent more than a few hours playing Call of Duty. When I saw the intro animation and cut scenes for the game, I couldnt help but notice so many well designed pieces that were being flipped through REALLY fast. Like 5 different blips per second. I'm not sure if any human is able to actually catch all that design just by watching it, try it for yourself. It was only when I paused every 1/2 a second I was able to see all the beautiful typography and graphics by SPOV Design and Moving Image from London. It makes me sad to see all this fantastic designs -- pages and pages of stuff that is flipped though in less than 1/5 of a second. Video found via our good blog friend Monsieur Bandit.

Kinetic Typography: Music Video for Jonathan Coulton's "Shop Vac"
This is a really cool kinetic typography animation by Jarret Heather for "Shop Vac" by Jonathan Coulton, which is not a bad song with a sarcastic, but meaningful, message about spending habits. The really cool stuff kicks in about halfway through, so give it a chance.

VIDEO: Amazing Live Visuals from DJ Shadow's Show in the Shadowsphere
I was lucky enough to see DJ Shadow perform live this past Halloween, and his show in the "Shadowsphere" is breathtaking, trippy and beautiful among other things. The Shadowsphere is a ball that DJ Shadow perfoms inside of, and is basically a ball-shaped projector screen, which his visual artist takes advantage of in a really cool way.

Music Video: Mega by The Count and Sinden
A really cool music animated music video for The Count and Sinden's Mega. Not sure of who the designer or artist is behind this, but the motion design in this music video could be used standalone as a trippy music visualizer. Another example of when cool animation can be better than the music itself in a music video.

VIDEO: Beautifully Animated Bumps for Japanese SciFi Channel
These animations by Nando Costa for FOX Japan are well done and super surreal. on Vimeo.
From the artist:
"My approach was based on the concept "The Other Side", which refers to stereotypes in science fiction material such as speculations of another dimension. Concrete blocks populating the various scenes of grassy fields behave as symbols for the so called "Other Side" and were loosely inspired by artist Donald Judd.
During the production of these animations I had the pleasure of collaborating with processing artist Robert Hodgin to create a complex flock of birds entangled in strings. Robert utilized a single bird cycle that we've made to create an application that allowed us to control and generate animations of the flock in an intricate flight dance. After some compositing and styling these animations became the identity of the channel's horror segment."

Video: Amazing Animation in this Don Pedleton Commercial
While it kills me to post up commercials, I can help but be in awe at how Don Pedleton's designs really burst into motion in this spot for Mountain Dew.
