Chuck Sperry Marilyn Manson Poster in San Francisco

Running out of adjectives to describe how rad Chuck's posters are. Got the English Beat and Down poster the other day and they are just amazing in person. I digress

From Chuck:

Marilyn Manson played in San Francisco, California at The Warfield on Friday, August 28, 2009. Seemed somehow appropriate to wake up the next morning and watch Senator Ted Kennedy's funeral, and the passing of Camelot.

I designed and printed this undead 5 color silkscreen gig poster, using metallic tints and translucent layers.

“Moonalice at The Green Spot” Poster by Chuck Sperry

Wow this is just gorgeous.

From Chuck:

When I heard that Moonalice was playing at The Green Spot in Coos Bay, Oregon on Saturday, August 22, 2009, I thought, let’s make a red, pink, orange and magenta poster. I guess that’s just how my contrary mind works. The warm colors also contrast the euphonious green spot which I also couldn’t resist. The Moonalice Series also celebrates it’s 200th poster. Moonalice legend says that all work and no play makes Obama a dull boy, so on a wise wombat’s advice the President of the Free World found himself vacationing in another bright green spot on this big blue marble, Martha’s Vinyard, this very day, chipping golf balls and waiting for Tiger. The POTUS may have a long wait for Tiger – Mr. Woods has plans. Or as one might tweet: “Woke up, had breakfast, went back to sleep. Life’s good LOL, IMHO, OMG.”

Down, Melvins, Weedeater, Danava Poster by Chuck Sperry

Down, Melvins, Weedeater and Danava played in San Francisco, California at The Regency on Friday, August 14, 2009 - it was more RAWK than can fit on one hairy Neanderthal hand!

Lovingly printed with Dinosaur-juice at Hangar 18 comes the latest in the Firehouse Goldenvoice series. To commemorate his use of oil-based inks made from petroleum by-products, here's a tip of the hat to the Extinction of the Oil Industry and the friendly dinos who died for art.

Chuck designed and printed this 5 color silkscreen gig poster with Cro-Magnon skill, using metallic tints and translucent layers, simply by employing his nimble opposable thumbs. Drag one of these home to your grotto before they go extinct - So Easy Even a Caveman Can Do it.

Clutch Baroness Lionize Poster by Chuck Sperry

Inspired by Doug Dashiell, floor manager of The Warfield, number 49 in the Firehouse Goldenvoice series, shows us Mr. DD eating up the highway as he blazes down to Clutch, Baroness and Lionize at The Regency. The show ripped! Baroness was wicked cool playing their "Red Album" bathed in red stage-lights. Clutch was massive, tight and better than ever. A great ol' rock'n'roll show deserving of a great monster motorcycle poster.
Edition of 150 printed on 14 point cover 27" x 23"

The Zeros Poster by Chuck Sperry

From Chucks mind to my blog

The Zeros played the Elbow Room for a very special reunion show, and what a reunion it was!The show was packed, so there wasn't even any elbow room in the Elbow Room.
Good to see Mario Escovedo (x-Dragons) who was road managing for his brother in The Zeros, and hadasked me to do this poster a few weeks ago. Rapped out with Courtney from the Demonics. Christian from Triclops who was cheering on bandmate Johnny, playing with the Fleshies.Spoke to Penelope Houston from The Avengers for a couple of minutes about the Rock Poster Documentary,"American Artifact."
The show was kind of a reunion of the Incredibly Strange Wrestling crowd, mashed up withthe SF Punk 77 crew. So it was a treat to see Bret Kibele, the original ISW organizer, who along with Audra Morse gave me my first poster jobs for Incredibly Strange Wrestling back in 1995.

Kepi • Chixdiggit • Head Poster by Chuck Sperry

Kepi Ghoulie came by Chuck's house the other day for a quick coffee on the way to the airport to pick up Chixdiggit. He loved his poster!
Kepi said it's just the sort of monster-y stuff he absolutely loves. Here's Chucks portrait of Lon Chaney - Man of a Thousand Faces - from one of his greatest films, "London After Midnight." Kepi had a great story; he told Chuck he once went to the house of "Famous Monsters" editor, the late great Forest Ackerman, who actually had the teeth Lon Chaney wore in this very film - in a jar by his bed.
These shows are a special treat - so make sure you get to one or all of the three very special concerts with Kepi Ghoulie Electric • Chixdiggit and Head!

Awareness-Raising event and reception for the
"Eminent Domain Awareness" Group Show

Tonight's event features legendary Dead Kennedys frontman and activist Jello Biafra, recent Vice Presidential candidate and former SF Board of Supervisors President Matt Gonzalez, newsman and Argonaut Editor Warren Hinckle, live screenprinting by Political Gridlock and The Firehouse, and music by Burnt House and DJ Evil Justin + surprise guest performers!

Join us for an evening of spoken word, live music and art as we raise awareness about Eminent Domain in our neighborhood. Few know that a San Francisco agency, the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, is eliminating 33 small, local businesses, including Varnish, and numerous residences in order to demolish all properties and later resell the land. The TJPA is forcing Varnish, among the first tenants and years before the end of the lease, to vacate this September for an October 2009 demolition of its nearly 100 year old building. This gallery and wine bar will have to vacate 77 Natoma Street, but the owners hope that by raising awareness about this eminent domain threat they can stop its abuses on this and future San Francisco projects.
