Flyers for Obey Giant that have that defiant and old school feel like you're ready to march off to a protest with a cardboard poster and conventional torch in hand. They evoke an almost political satire-from-past-decades feel in a contemporary setting that has risen in popularity through the art direction of renown graphic designer / actvist / dj Shepard Fairey who designed the Obama "HOPE" poster like a boss.



His use of artistic talent for nonprofit organizations and the less fortunate make his design work that much more awesome and inspiring. His most recent work on American artist Jasper Johns here and his work from earlier in the year on a shirt in promotion of a film on the preservation of nature called 180 South.

Invitational- Rob Jones brings us ‘St. Swithin’s Day’!

The Nakatomi Invitational cycle 1 wraps up with this print/ t-shirt combo from poster legend, Rob Jones! Rob Jones is the man behind, oh…just about EVERYTHING you’ve ever seen poster-related (and cd art, and packaging design, etc) that’s ever come from the White Stripes and Raconteurs.

“St. Swithin’s Day” is, as Rob puts it- “If I had ever got a chance to do a Roky Erickson poster, this would have been it.” Roky fans could decipher this triumph of a design, but the rest of us can just marvel. (Or you could read me breaking it down on the home page starting on the 2nd…) The print is an 18×24 4 color screen print, with metallic inks, and the shirt also features metallic gold.

"I went to school with a kid named Tommy Revenge who had an abnormally large right hand. Not just abnormally large for a 12 year old. Plain old abnormally large. He couldn't wear both gloves so his Mom wrapped his huge hand in a towel when it was cold, but the extra weight made him lose balance a lot. One morning we were all playing chicken with the groundskeeper and his ride-on John Deere like we always did, but Tommy's hand must have weighed a lot that day, because he got real close, and then just collapsed to his right, and fell under the lawnmower blades. Ironically, after the lawnmower completely diced him like a carrot, his huge right hand, the last thing to enter the blades, jammed them, destroying the machine. We always said that at least his last name suited him, as Tommy got his "Revenge". Kinda."

Adam Turman Breast Cancer Shirts Pre-Order

My buddy Erba over on EB is having some really cool shirts designed by Adam Turman made that will benefit the fight against breast cancer.

The logo will be printed on a navy blue or red t-shirt. Shirts are going to be $20 for S-XL, $21.50 for XXL and XXXL shipped to anywhere in the world. All shirts are in mens sizes. Shirts will probably be ready to ship in about 4 weeks.

Aaron Horkey Playge logo plans by Ferg

Ferg has let it be known he has big plans for the logo Aaron created for his new venture. They include a letterpress print, stickers, shirts, hoodies and ferg even turned in the design for the first 1/6th scale fig (playge rat). Looks to be some real cool stuff coming for Jamungo/Ferg/Playge/Horkey fans. Thanks to Stingers for pointing me in the direction to find the info.

Converse x Pink Floyd “Animals” Chuck Taylor Collection

Inspired by the artwork from the 1977 “Animals” album, Pink Floyd has created a pack of two Chuck Taylors with Converse. The design comes both on the Chuck Taylor Low and Chuck Taylor High. Both sneakers are releasing this week at the Converse Store London and hopefully in the States soon or online in the Converse store.

Van Halen Files Lawsuit Against Nike

WWD reports on a cause of action for copyright infringement suit filed against Nike by the Van Halen rocker’s company, ELVH Inc.

“ELVH alleges that the design of certain Nike Dunk Low styles infringe on the copyright the company holds for the red-white-and-black-striped pattern Van Halen made famous on his “Frankenstein” guitar — and for which the musician has held the copyright since 2001.

Citing “irreparable harm and damage,” ELVH is asking for the impoundment and destruction of all the shoes in question, as well as all profits from the sale of the shoes and damages.

In a statement provided to FN by a brand spokesperson, Nike said it was aware of the lawsuit but did not believe it to have merit. “Based on the information provided to us, we have not infringed on any rights held by Mr. Van Halen,” it said. “Nike’s Dunk shoe design is not substantially similar to any of the Van Halen designs, and Nike has not referenced the ‘Van Halen’ name or image as part of any marketing campaign or promotional material associated with the shoe.”

It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this dispute. What do you think?

Rick Griffin x Vans Authentic Shoes

While I previewed some of the fall releases for the Rick Griffin x Vans Vault collection, a present-day release with a classic Vans Authentic model also bears the name of the iconic underground comic/psychedelic illustrator. The shoe’s execution is ultimately very minimalistic as the majority of the design on the all white Authentic is seen within the lining as well as on a special box. A signature of the late Griffin marks the heels of both shoes. Available now at FLAUGE.
