Ween, Afro-Punk, Morrissey posters available Friday from Jermaine Rogers

'AFRO-PUNK (Will I Live Tomorrow?)' art print -

This 7-color screen print measures approx. 25x18 inches and is printed on white gallery stock. Designed for this years recent AFRO-PUNK festival in NYC (www.afropunk.com), Jermaine has re-imagined Hendrix as if he came along about 20 years later than he did. The image was originally part of a trio of prints depicting 3 African American personalities as stereo-typical 'punk rockers'. Jermaine insisted on offering Jimi as an art print. This image was a hit in NYC and Jermaine received quite a bit of kind words for this image, most notably from film-maker Spike Lee, who mailed his copies of the print back to Jermaine to have them personalized directly to him. A signed and numbered edition of only 75, we have very limited quantities remaining. $50

- 'AFRO-PUNK (Will I Live Tomorrow?)' art print (SPECIAL SDCC EDITION) -

This Comic-Con special edition features the above imagery printed on gallery mirrored metallic stock, adding a dazzling brilliance to the piece. From a signed and numbered edition of only 25 copies. We promised we'd hold back a handful. If you want this, act like you know. $75

WEEN (Asbury Park, NJ) screenprint -

Jermaine has accepted 3 poster commissions from the mighty band WEEN for the present tour. This is the first, a screen print measuring approx. 30x20 inches for the recent show at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. The prints allotted for the show sold out with a quickness. The imagery has a very '80's fashion' feel to it, and features a day-glow and two metallic inks! It's printed on white gallery stock and features lovely custom inks including line art printed a brilliant metallic gold. $50

MORRISSEY (Texas) screenprint A/P's -

Finally, the 'in-demand' Morrissey poster of the moment. Jermaine created this poster several months ago for Morrissey's concert dates in Houston and El Paso,Texas. The print, which was well-received by the Morrissey community, has made it into a few people's hands. There have been many inquiries as to when it will drop. We have a very limited amount of A/P copies available. The image depicts the Moz seated between 2 of his biggest idols, James Dean and Marc Bolan of T. Rex. Screenprinted and VERY limited. Measuring approx. 30x20 inches on white gallery stock. Again, a limited amount of signed A/P's remain. $50

Just a note to let you know that a few items previously unavailable to the general cyber-public will go on sale at JermaineRogers.com: This Friday, Sept. 4th at about 2PM MDT

Here's a few of the things that Jermaine will be dropping at the Con:

- New WEEN (Asbury Park, NJ) screenprint -

Jermaine has accepted 3 poster commissions from the mighty band WEEN for the present tour. This is the first, a screen print measuring approx. 30x20 inches for the recent show at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. The prints allotted for the show sold out with a quickness. Jermaine will have some of these prints available at the Comic-Con. The print is from a signed and numbered edition of only 75. These will go fast: Jermaine will hold a portion back for a websale in a couple of weeks. The imagery has a very '80's fashion' feel to it. It's printed on white gallery stock and features lovely custom inks including line art printed a brilliant metallic gold. And yes, there is a story behind the imagery: read on below...

- 'A Flower For Tara' art print (SDCC EXCLUSIVE) -

Yes, the imagery for the above WEEN print is also presented as a very limited edition art print. With an edition of less that 20, this one will be hard to come by. You who are well-versed in modern rock poster art imagery will recognize that the little skull flower our lovely girl is holding is influenced by one lovely piece of art that was created by poster artist Tara McPherson. Jermaine says, 'This image is dedicated to Tara and all of her hot friends. I know I haven't met them all.' This poster is printed on mirrored metallic coated stock. Again, these will go fast and will exclusively debut at SDCC 09. Tara will be there, also: A unique opportunity to have the print signed by artist and influence all in the same day.

- 'AFRO-PUNK (Will I Live Tomorrow?)' art print -

This 7-color screen print measures approx. 25x18 inches and is printed on white gallery stock. Designed for this years recent AFRO-PUNK festival in NYC (www.afropunk.com), Jermaine has re-imagined Hendrix as if he came along about 20 years later than he did. The image was originally part of a trio of prints depicting 3 African American personalities as stereo-typical 'punk rockers'. This image was a hit in NYC and Jermaine received quite a bit of kind words for this image, most notably from film-maker Spike Lee, who mailed his copies of the print back to Jermaine to have them personalized directly to him. A signed and numbered edition of only 75, these will go fairly swiftly. A handful will be held back for a websale in a couple of weeks....so again, your best shot is at Comic-Con.

- MORRISSEY (Texas) screenprint -

Available to the general public for the first time anywhere, the 'in-demand' Morrissey poster of the moment. Jermaine created this poster several months ago for Morrissey's concert dates in Houston and El Paso, Texas. The print, which was well-received by the Morrissey community, has made it into a few peoples' hands. There have been many inquiries as to when it will drop. Well, Jermaine will have a very limited amount of copies for sale at Comic-Con. The image depicts the Moz seated between 2 of his biggest idols, James Dean and Marc Bolan of T.Rex. Screenprinted and VERY limited. A few of these MAY be held back for a future websale. Measuring approx. 30x20 inches on white gallery stock.

- 'Kings Of Rock' Mini Print (SDCC EDITION) -

Measuring 12x11 inches, this sought-after image from last year's Comic-Con has been re-worked and presented as a special screened mini print. It is printed on French speckletone stock and is from a S/N edition of only 40.

- 'BELIEVE' Dero Resin Prototype Figure -

'YES', to answer all of the emails at once. We will debut the new RESIN piece that will be released in a very limited edition in the near future. The piece is called 'BELIEVE' and is beautiful cast resin, measuring 9 inches in height. Jermaine and resin master Brin Berliner worked many hours on this piece, crafting and re-crafting every detail...down to the expressionistic out-stretched fingers of this Dero master. The figure will also be released as a beautiful bronze sculpture, for the discerning collector. Two of the variant resin prototypes will be on display at Comic-Con. Above are a few sneak peeks.
Along with all of the above will be other items from the vaults, available for purchase: rare variant figures from Jermaine's toyography, literally a pile of rare gems from his poster catalog, a look at the new Jermaine X Vans shoes in person, as well as some other surprises (Yes, there will be a few '27 Club' prints available). Jermaine will be at the booth periodically throughout the show to say hello, do sketches, and hang out. Dustin Booth (from Jermaine's DERO 72 Gallery) will also be there, essentially running the booth. They look forward to seeing you!

. VANS will be giving away a lot of swag and so will Jermaine: 'Whenever I do events like this...whether it's at San Diego Comicon or whatever, I like to exchange gifts with folks. JERMAINE ROGERS MORRISSEY POSTER SNEAK PEAK

From Jermaine

One last thing: some of you in Houston, Texas or El Paso, Texas have seen Jermaine's first concert poster in a while hanging in select places around your communities. It's for upcoming shows by Morrissey. About the imagery, Jermaine says, ''This is the first concert print commission I've accepted in 7 months... and it didn't take a lot of arm twisting: it's for Mr. Morrissey. The image takes place in a nightclub which has appeared as the setting for another print I did a year or so ago for RADIOHEAD. It's a freaky kind of place where in the low-lights, sweet smells, and loud music...any weird thing can happen. Moz sits flanked by 2 of his heroes...'The Slider' and Jimmy Dean." We've already begun to receive a flood of emails asking about this one. It will be available, soon. Stay tuned in.

New Jermaine Rogers poster art print 'Interaction #1: Gypsy Eye' on sale details

About 'Interaction #1: Gypsy Eye' Jermaine says:

"Arguably the greatest concert poster of all time is Rick Griffin's 'Eyeball,' Bill Graham number 105, done for a 1968 concert headlined by Jimi Hendrix. The immortal imagery is perfect in every way, showcasing the 'all-seeing' eyeball: according to sources, Rick called it 'the eye of god'. There it hovers, bearing a skull in it's clawed hand...a reminder that we are all mortal and passing beings. Enhancing this striking artwork is the knowledge that it was done to promote a show by the legend that is Hendrix. I can imagine Jimi moving through cosmos and alternate realities...slipping in and out of dimensions, accompanied by his ethereal companion, his cosmic guide: The Eye. These 2 legendary figures are forever entwined in the history of rock and roll...one real and one imagined. And yet the power of the one has accentuated the beauty of the other. BG 105 is a shrine of modern art, a seamless example of what happens when music and visuals combine to create a tremor on the richter scale of how we measure culture and our place in it. This is my humble tribute: Rick Griffin, we are not even worthy."

This 8-color screenprint measures approx. 20 x 30 inches and is printed on gallery stock. It features a mixture of brilliant tone inks, including a metallic and a striking color-fade. This print is from a very limited signed and numbered edition of only 150 pieces.

New Posters art prints by Jermaine Rogers on sale details

Jermaine Rogers has two new posters dropping this week. Jermaine has become a lot more up front with his social commentary recently instead of masking it in his gigposters, for that we are all better.
TWO NEW ART PRINTS AVAILABLE THURSDAY MARCH 19:
'Little Animals Grow... (Teach Your Children)' & 'To Be Young, Gifted and Black'

Little Animals Grow... (Teach Your Children)' is a 7-color screenprint measures approx. 24x16 inches and is printed on gallery stock. The title and imagery are rather striking, in lieu of certain current events in the world. Jermaine mentions, 'It's interesting how our society provides several ways of teaching a child to get very comfortable with the feel of a pistol in his hand. Every little detail of this image has it's own little meaning: I hope some of you will like it.'

This print is from a very limited edition of only 75 signed and numbered copies.

For sale on THURSDAY MARCH 19TH AT A RANDOM TIME BETWEEN 12-3PM MOUNTAIN (2-5PM EASTERN)

'To Be Young, Gifted and Black' 7-color screenprint measures approx. 20x20 inches and is printed on gallery stock. Concerning the imagery, Jermaine says:

'Excuse my indulgence in a few statistics for a moment. Note the following numbers from the US Dept. Of Justice, complied in an article that I read recently:

Among men, blacks (28.5%) are about six times more likely than whites (4.4%) to be admitted to prison during their life.

Based on current rates of incarceration, an estimated 7.9% of black males compared to 0.7% of white males will enter State of Federal prison by the time they are age 20 and 21.4% of black males versus 1.4% of white males will be incarcerated by age 30.

There are more black men are in prison in America than are in college.

The National Institute of Drug Abuse estimated that while 12 percent of drug users are black, they make up nearly 50 percent of all drug possession arrests in the U.S.

In six California counties independently surveyed in 1995, 100% of those individuals sent to trial on drug charges were minorities, while the drug-using population in those same counties was more than 60% white.

A CNN article in 1996 cited U.S. government figures that show more than 90 percent of all federal prosecutions for crack cocaine in 1995 were of African American defendants. In addition, unlike convictions for powered cocaine and other drugs (which wealthy, Caucasian defendants are more likely to use), a conviction for selling crack cocaine can carry a lengthy prison term without benefit of parole. 60% of the cases involved drug values of less than $50, so we aren't talking about drug dealers, here.

What about figures for other types of crimes? According to the U.S. Department on Justice, property and drug offenses account for 76.4 % and 56.4% respectively. So, most minority criminal convictions are NOT for violent crimes...as you might have been led to believe by the media, your friends, or your family.

Interesting, isn't it? Of course, I'm not implying that black men don't commit crimes at all. As the aforementioned article later pointed out, I believe that there is an equal amount of the 'criminal element' in every race in America. Thing is, if you're a young black man, you're WAY more likely to be arrested and convicted. In fact, governmental agencies actually rely on these trends, and have worked increasingly larger amounts of funds into the budgets for urban and low-income arrests and state and federal prison building. They've got 'plans' for 1 of every 4 little black boys in America (1 in 4 U.S. black men in their twenties is either in jail or under legal supervision).

The title of this print was taken from a song called 'To Be Young, Gifted, & Black', written by Nina Simone during the civil rights movement. There's a line in the song that says:

We must begin to tell our young
Theres a world waiting for you.

Obviously, there's many sides of the issue and a whole lot of supplemental factors to think about. Look at those statistics again. Ask yourself, 'Why?''

'To Be Young, Gifted, And Black' is a very limited edition of 75 signed and numbered prints.

Both prints will be for sale at www.jermainerogers.com on March 19 between 2-5 pm est. at a random time
