Western Edition And RAW Present Marvin Gaye: 25 Years Later Skate Board Deck Beanie and shirt

A fantastic new collaborative project is coming from Western Edition and RAW. A set of a t-shirt, beanie and matching skateboard deck, inspired by the great Marvin Gaye.“Every man’s life has a beginning and an end. The fact of the matter is, however, that it is what a man does with the time in between those two moments that defines how he will be remembered when it is all over. From his humble beginnings in our nation’s capital to his bizarre and tragic death at the hand of his own father, Marvin Gaye filled his moments in between with ideas that will forever maintain his status as a true genius. On April 1, 2009, the twenty-fifth anniversary of Marvin’s passing, we will, for lack of a better term, celebrate. Western Edition of San Francisco and RAW of Boston have released this collection to pay respect to the musical history that Marvin Gaye left for all of us to use as inspiration.”

EMEK quites the poster business

From EMEK

we are sad to say, after 15 years in business, we can no longer afford to make posters anymore...we just could not compete with all the flippers.

as other poster artists got bought out by corporate backers, we always strove to remain independent and still provide the best service. do not worry, anyone who ordered from us in the past 18 months will still be getting their orders. (yes, part of remaining independent was that we were a little slow)

so we are having a going out of business sale...chinese currency only please.

thank you for all the years of fun

New limited edition SABER poster art print released

SABER was already a fixture in the Los Angeles graffiti scene, but in 1997 when he completed the largest graffiti piece ever created he was catapulted to global legend. His piece on the sloping cement bank of the Los Angeles River is nearly the size of a professional football field, and can be read clear as day from a satellite photo. It took 97 gallons of paint and 35 nights to complete. In a famous photograph—taken by his father just after it was finished—SABER stands on the piece and appears as a tiny speck amid a giant blaze of color.

Born in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale, SABER was raised by creative parents and discovered his passion for art at an early age. At 13, his cousins introduced him to graffiti when they took him to see the spray paint-covered Belmont Tunnel. And from that moment on, he was hooked. After honing his skills on local walls, SABER joined MSK, and was later inducted into legendary piecing crew AWR.

While painting graffiti is his main focus, SABER also explores other artistic avenues. He is known for his surreal landscapes, which are pulled from the deep, dark places in his psyche, and has also created groundbreaking metal and wood sculptures of abstract letterforms and painstakingly rendered hyper-realistic canvases.

SABER has also worked in design, taking jobs for Harley-Davidson and Levis, on movie sets and music videos, and was commissioned by Hyundai and Scion to airbrush cars.

SABER is currently prepping the release of his 168-page monograph SABER: MAD SOCIETY released by Gingko Press, R77, and Boost Mobile. The book comes complete with stories of childhood, fine art and his graffiti misadventures.

On July 14, SABER will hold his first solo exhibition “Close Encounters” at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco.

Among the thousands of people who make up the graffiti community around the world, there are few names that carry the same legendary quality as SABER.

New Todd Slater posters Man in Black, Modest Mouse, Morrissey & Black Keys on sale details

On Paper

On Wood

From Todd Slater

On Friday, April 3, at 2pm CST my Man in Black art print will go on sale. You can see the image here. It's an edition of 100, signed and numbered and will be $50. Alot of people don't know how religious Johnny was, and I thought the crosses made for a very interesting paradox in the print. The print also contains a small tribute to June as well - see if you can spot it. In addition, there is a signed and numbered edition of 30 printed on wood. These look especially amazing and will obviously have to be shipped flat. The price is $150 for the wood edition.

On Thursday, April 2, at 2pm CST three new posters will go on sale for Modest Mouse, Morrissey and The Black Keys. These new posters are editions of 200, signed and numbered, priced at $30 a print.

Here's a few notes about the new prints:

The Morrissey print is an homage to an Ambassadeurs poster by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (view the original here). I have to once again thank my good friend Rob Jones who suggested referencing the artist.

Modest Mouse is a top 10 favorite band of mine and this print is inspired by their song, Steam Engenius. I wanted the illustration style to be modeled from some of Picasso's animal drawings. There's a really nice clear varnish layer of a gear pattern in this that doesn't show up too well in the web image.

I've been playing with the idea of using a domino (as a key element) in a Black Keys poster...I like the duality and simplicity of it in relation to the band. Sometimes a gut feeling is enough to build a poster on. There's also a clear varnish layer in this print that features a photo collage of a famous Burlesque dancer from the 40s and 50s.

JERMAINE ROGERS MORRISSEY POSTER SNEAK PEAK

From Jermaine

One last thing: some of you in Houston, Texas or El Paso, Texas have seen Jermaine's first concert poster in a while hanging in select places around your communities. It's for upcoming shows by Morrissey. About the imagery, Jermaine says, ''This is the first concert print commission I've accepted in 7 months... and it didn't take a lot of arm twisting: it's for Mr. Morrissey. The image takes place in a nightclub which has appeared as the setting for another print I did a year or so ago for RADIOHEAD. It's a freaky kind of place where in the low-lights, sweet smells, and loud music...any weird thing can happen. Moz sits flanked by 2 of his heroes...'The Slider' and Jimmy Dean." We've already begun to receive a flood of emails asking about this one. It will be available, soon. Stay tuned in.
